  • Is there any standard system we're following when making edits? I've been searching random articles and I have found many articles that are listed as "checked" but also as "major revision needed" and/or "plagiarized material."   • maybe we should start to talk about how we can check for plagiarism. If anyone has any way to easily check for it without having to check each and every source to the article. Gautham Kumar

Well I did some "googling" (haha) and found this... click this link!!! ... it is free but requires a short download. It also seems to be only for Microsoft Windows users. I saw quite a few other ones but this was the free one I found. Tanner Shirah

Well, at first glace, this software looks interesting, but a closer look at the website providing the software raises some questions about its reliability. First of all, all but one of the stories on the "news and press page" were produced by the publishers of the software themselves. This means we only have their word that the software is any good. Furthermore, the one piece written by someone else is a blog post by a professor who is angry about an on-campus advertising campaign he feels has vandalized his campus. This professor writes that he is concerned that the software is designed to help students, "simply learn how to mask their tracks rather than developing bona fide study skills." Hardly a ringing endorsement! Ultimately, the decision about what tools to use is yours, but I cannot recommend this software. Afamiglietti 17:12, 13 November 2010 (EST)
plus, I can't imagine it working for old text in the archives and such. This is not a very braod encyclopedia, it's narrow in the sense the topic is only about Georgia Tech. I'll be damned if it could detect plagiarism form a copy of PBurdell's diary if you know what i mean. I think we need to physically relocate/ read sources and cross reference. Citation techniques might need to be tweaked such as include page numbers or specifics for easy finding for round two articles. Fradac 17:36, 15 November 2010 (EST)


  • Good now we can split up the articles into groups and each of the committee members should be responsible for that group of articles. We could use that soft ware and start up as soon as possible. Any new suggestions could help Gautham Kumar

We should probably develop some kind of system on which articles to check. Are we going to check each new article or just have incremental checks like every week or so?

IMPORTANT NOTE

I know, for a fact, that there are some serious citation errors on our wiki. Some are quite obvious. I've been waiting for the committee to find them. I'm a little worried that you haven't, yet.
